Top Jimmy!

Shredd me out dude!
play stairway one more time
give Eddie a lesson
that will make us come unwound
you played the Brit blues
in beauty and aggression
to frighten the crowds
with your own
unique expression
So, rock on Top Jimmy!
for the music must change
and in my book
you're one and the same!

Endless Sleep

I can feel the water filling my lungs
Weighing on my chest
It's heavy and cool

It sinks me
to the bottom
And holds me in place

My chest rises and falls
With the waves
Slow and smooth

I let my body flow
With the pace of the water
As I drift off to sleep

When I awaken
The fish greet me as their friend
The sand under me is warm

I close my eyes
once more
To listen to the movement

The dull crash of the waves
The echo of silence
The beating of my heart

Reasons

When we would often ask
why we loved each other,
the usual items on my list were there.

Her melancholy for the brevity of shooting stars.
And wandering out to greet the rain at first light
as it begins its release from the night.

But the best explanation, we both agreed,
was that there didn’t need to be
any specific reason at all.

Tragedy

It can pull you together or tear you apart,
With a shattered soul or a broken heart…
A young man lost to the ravages of war,
Or a girl abducted on her way to the store…

The pain is real and it won’t subside,
You wear a mask but it’s hard to hide…
Friends will ask how you are doing,
You say you’re fine but a storm is brewing…

Fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers,
Each grieving differently than the others…
Some will sit quietly not saying a word,
Or scream in anger at what has occurred…

Memories of Timothy Leary

Little white pill, so innocent in my palm.
Momentary doubt, to take it or not.
Messages of doom rattle in my brain.
Shoving them aside, down it goes.

Anxious to see where it will lead,
Waiting, waiting, no sign of a change.
Someone walks ’cross the dimly lit room,
Echoes of light shadow behind them.

The music stops. The record changes.
Santana "Abraxas" blares from the speakers.
The music breeds a wild panic within.
Desperation! Escape! Reject the record.

The Way I Love

I love like a faded polaroid in my wallet,
battered and bruised but kept safe through the years.
I love like a handwritten letter, graphite on paper,
scrawled out so carefully heartfelt and sincere.
I love like an oak loves it’s roots,
like an alcoholic loves his bourbon and beers.

When I find love, I don’t let go.
I sink my teeth into flesh and grip tight,
I break skin and lock eyes,
I reach out and take
what I want to be mine.

Grounded

The ground began to shake
The walls cracked
Dust rained from the ceiling
The light fixture swung just above where I was standing

Frozen,
panicked.

I closed my eyes
and wished it would stop
I even prayed that it would stop

I feel the breeze flow through the broken windows
The rain spraying the floor where I stand

Sirens outside
are a melody
no one ever wants to hear

I planted my feet
begged for survival
and braced for impact.

Under The Influence

Accidental, no doubt.
One and done, you were supposed to be out.
My soul left my body, the minute we kissed.
A moment in time, I am glad not to have missed.

My hair in your hands,
thick fingers wound between the strands.
Your eyes following mine,
while your tongue traced my lip line.

Intoxicated by your smell,
but how could I tell,
this would turn into so much more.
opening a whole new door.
