It's My Lucky Day

The day after I was saved,
I found a lucky penny.

I picked it up
and dusted off the dirt.

Something so insignificant
felt like a miracle.

I looked up and felt the sun
warm on my face

The breeze swept my hair
over my shoulder

The conversations around me
sounded like white noise

Everything I was feeling
settled and unraveled

For the first time in a long time,
I felt grateful to be alive

---
I remember that day
like it was yesterday

Smitten (Battle)

Battle

out of the blue...
your face in the crowd
I spy!
NO!
don't see me!
breath stops,
slowly...

returning as a thousand needles
softly, I gasp
precious air
please lift me,
bring with you
my pride newly patched
from its tattered and torn
state of being.
courage, I know you're there
somewhere,
having faced worse
I summon you,
now conjure up a smile...

Still His Wife

There’s a strange ache that comes with filling out forms these days.
Married? Single? Widow? Divorced?
And suddenly, I find myself unsure where I belong.

Legally, yes—I am single and a widow. But in my heart, I am definitely not single and remain his wife.

He may have gone ahead to heaven, but to me, he is simply my husband.

You should go down in your knees

You should go down on
Your knees
And thank you Father
For have made you
In his image
Also you should be glad
That you are one of
My Father's
Youngest child
Don't forget to go down on
Your knees and thank my Father
For your beautiful life

Highway 99 Revisited

Hitchhiking home with my best friend
in the late seventies, I think it was.

Armed with the assumption of immortality
that often accompanies youth,
we ignored the possibilities of danger.

In retrospect, behind our painted smiles,
there seemed to be a hint of desperation
as we stood on the shoulder of the passage.

I recall looking at the highway signs.
None of the harbingers emblazoned there
mentioned the different directions we were headed.

Over our collective figurative eyes commander in chief pulls wool...

because you watch
and see that democracy will unspool
military (intelligent)
industrial complex tool
at Trump's beck and call,
where hardened soldiers
train the crosshairs of their firearms
against innocent bystanders,
especially targeting
supposedly nonestablishmentarians
(like this rebel without a clause),
who embraces win/win conflict resolution
shouting thru a megaphone
while standing atop a toady stool,
hence deployment of National Guard troops
doth adumbrate military rule

Devil's song

Out of nowhere I spotted it, in yonder sky,
A monstrosity, that looked like it shouldn't fly.
Too complex a design to be by man's hand,
I wonder in awe at what could be its plan.

Woe that I'd have known that it was here,
But dream like, saw it appear.
A monster of metal, sent not for fear,
More as reconaissance, with scanning gear.

What do they want? What do they seek?
If I had x-ray vision, internally I would peek.
Yet instead I am rooted, as solid as stone,
With a chilling feeling right to my bone.

A Prized Pilot

I love how you hold me
firm and steady.
Your hand guides me
on the way to infamy.
You give me the words
the world needs to receive,
and you show me how to
broadcast them.
During recess, we perform
absurd assignments.
The day ends with a
satisfying click, and you
dispatch me to dreamland
in your antique rolltop.

Why does the caged bird still dream ?

Hope is so heady.
Faith is so onerous.
Ideation is so consuming.
And pain is too lasting.
Happiness,is simple,but fleeting;
I want it all the time.
These days,Joy...I crave it,all the time.
I also crave chocolate,so there's that.
Ah,I googled today the meaning
of the word aphorisms.
I realised,my eyes,have been blind.

Tyrants

The world is being molested by bullies,
cowards with pathetic penises

trying to prick the most
innocent, virginal lives,

always frustrated and impotent,
stupid and self-centered,

forcing their way to
possess land and people

who will always be
more dignified, more glorious,

more humane
and compassionate,

who may live with real fear,
yet, will never be owned.
