Give this child what she needs

Give this child what she needs
Love
Give this child what she needs
Shelter
Give this child what she needs
Prayers
Give this child what she needs
Some food and water
Give this child what she needs
Good parents
Give this child what she needs
Good manors
Give this child what she needs
A smoke free home
Give this child what she needs
Peace and happiness
Give this child what she needs
To know God
Give this child what she needs
Your guidance
Give this child what she needs

Smelling Memories...

Smells of such delight,
waft through the quiet house
I hear my mother stirring,
though she's quiet as a mouse.

The gentle whistle of the kettle,
upon the stove I hear,
Two cups set out with tea bags,
for me and mother dear.

I pour the boiling water,
she slices warm and toasty bread.
A bit of butter, jam...
with my tastebuds, wed.

We talk about the future,
tea leaves scattered in the cup.
I hear my sisters laughing,
while they're getting up.

Free...

I'm almost there
but not quite .
I'm describing the process
the way it is possible
the way it can happen
but I'm not there yet.
Geezer reminds me
that there is more that I can say,
more that I can write,
more that I can do,
and I need that.

Cookies and Poetry

In realms of words, where stories dwell,
Mark crafted books, a magic spell.
His loyal readers, year by year,
Sought tales and verse, held ever dear.

Then Jack, one time, with eager hand,
A poetry book, ten dollars planned.
But when the bill, a twist did show,
Twenty dollars, a doubled flow.

Jack called Mark, with gentle plea,
"Ten dollars more, it seems to be."
Mark, knowing well this faithful friend,
"Of course," he said, "I'll make amends."

Lost At Sea

Never had I experienced such pain while at sea
Wondering if I would ever continue to be

The light was gone and the clouds solid black
Quickly dropping down seemingly ready to smack

The winds began blowing with terrible force
So I prayed that they would soon change course

The boat was shaking violently from side to side
And would not stop shaking no matter how I tried

Finally I prayed to God seeking His immediate aid
Waiting with tears in my eyes that change would be made

THe HOUSE SLAVE

The first horn lifts its arm over the dew-lit grass.
And in the slave quarters there is a rustling--
Children are bundling into aprons, cornbread.

And water gourds grabbed, a salt pork breakfast
taken.
I watch them driven into the vague before-dawn while their mistress sleeps like an ivory tooth pick.

My Crochet Blanket...

On my bed
is a crochet blanket
multi coloured
and very warm.
I crocheted it
when I was
fifteen years old
in what we called Form Three
at school
in my sewing classes.

It is made of polyester thread.
It is soft.
It feels so nice
on my back and head.

Outside My Window

Outside my window I saw the most beautiful sight
Smiling and singing and looking so bright

Swinging with such grace singing a song
She most definitely could never do wrong

As I pulled all the thoughts from my mind
I realised that this sweet beauty is such a great find

Poppy is everything that I would forever enjoy
A flash of memories that I would never destroy

Outside my window exists that most beautiful girl
A sight that fills my heart with such a beautiful pearl!
