Water Everywhere

Everywhere is a wall of water
Big breakers smash the reef
Sorrow comes like a tidal wave
The seas are heavy with grief
Sadness will come in spurts
All these little pangs of pain
Small shards of hurt
cling to me like limpets.

Again and again the waves return
Crash and engulf the shore
Here I’m stranded like a starfish
Sadness will drown me more

Garden Without Sound

I scarcely notice the rain pelting my coffee cup.
Or the small House Wrens near a pile of cut branches,
flitting about joyously, welcoming the light shower.

They remind me I need to get that cleaned up sometime,
but I’m hesitant to disturb their preferred habitat
so, I’ll leave them to enjoy their capering.

My reverie does notice the hush of absence
while I wait for these words to overcome
the silence in the garden we imagined.

Exile

I lace up my boots
Dagger at my thigh
I'll fight this battle
Without asking why

Notch the arrow
Send it to the heart
Let it pierce my soul
Broken from the start

I fight like a knight
Wear my armor true
I'll battle my fears
That nobody knew

Cuts stung by Betrayal
A crack in the shield
And suddenly, I'm the
Monster everyone willed

If I am so horrible
Why do I try so hard?
Why can't I feel things
Without pulling the victim card?

From My Window

Droplets of Spring
run down my window
and saturate the
trees where the
robins hide away
protecting their
blue eggs.

From my window,
decorated with tracks
of Spring, I see
the daffodil’s
stalks like sentries
guarding our
flower garden.

From my window
I see how Spring
ushers in
new life and
helps it thrive.

Birthday/ Unbirthday

Although it is my birthday,
I'm not feeling very well.
Don't feel like celebrating,
Not under that birthday spell.

I only want to sit,
And watch the world go by.
Keeping my sorrows to me,
I'm trying not to cry.

Although only one year older,
My body's falling apart.
My pains have brutally aged me,
Weighing heavy on my heart.

I know that birthdays matter,
And you love these special days.
And I hate to be the purveyor,
Of miserable ,sorrowful ways.

THE LOSS OF MY CHILDREN

This day did come that I couldn't handle.
The Loss of my darling daughter, Robin.
Friendly smile ,kind and happy was She
Who always was there for me.

My heart cried and I was there ready to go with her.
Why did this happen to such a lovely girl.
Drugs took her with fentanyl.
Overnight she left us.

Three months passed and to my wildest dreams.
I lost my oldest daughter,Cathy
I felt my heart freeze with grief.
For my oldest child has left this world in sleep.

Nothing Like Me

Nothing like me

He’s as stubborn as a mule and as sly as a fox,
As graceful as an eagle and as strong as an ox.
He’s as deaf as a haddock and as blind as a bat,
He’s a contradiction, can you imagine that?

He’s as old as dirt but he’s young at heart,
Kinda dumb and kinda smart.
He’s mostly polite but he can be rude,
It’s all dependant upon his mood.

True Love

Paul and Chrissy

Young Paul, with eyes so bright and keen,
A playful spirit, always to be seen.
Young Chrissy, with a gentle, sweet allure,
A smile that promised joys forever pure.

They grew as one, through childhood's sunny days,
In shared adventures, and in loving ways.
Their hearts entwined, a tender, youthful tie,
A budding love beneath a summer sky.

Marsh...

My wonder dog.
The beautiful dog
we bought from
the Guide Dog Association,
the reject dog
with a sense of joy
and a will of iron.

This large fat dog
this labrador
who made our lives complete.
Who insisted on having his kennel
right next to the back door
because he wanted to hear everything
going on
in the laundry and kitchen.
Who took us for a walk,
and never wanted to stop at the kerb.
No wonder he was rejected.
