A Little's a Lot

If I knew then what I know now
With the know-how of what’s what
And calm thoughts, no why nots
The road’s lowest lows and highest highs
Would be closed off with a bright sign
That reads ‘turn back, threats ahead
The gym’s there, go before bed!’
Well, I did what I did and paid the price
Hospital beds and sleepless nights.
From slums frequented to fun that’s rented,
Like the price I was high but then fell.
But the highs were a lie and although I survived
The fall below where I dwelled, is hell.

The Gogetter

The Gogetter
Was born on the twentieth
Of November 2024.
She took the name
For her poems
Because it gave her strength
And purpose.

Bruce gave her that name
In passing,
Only a small mention,
But it struck her
That he had hit on something.

It gave her
A sense of movement
And progress
And the knowledge
That she could get things done.

That name
Has become integral
In her healing
And what she does
In that process.

My First Class Ticket

My first class destination was a dream come true
A chance to imagine how to make my life new

As the plane reaches its flying height
I began to slowly to relieve my fright

The special treatment my ticket will provide
Allows my mind to freely glide

My first class ticket was such a delight
A trip above the stars so bright

Beside me my loving wife
My permanent partner in life

Our anniversary trip so many miles away
Gives me time to think and pray

Leaving Room for Errors

I ask her in the morning if she slept well,
as I almost always do, unless we fought
the night before. Then I am silent.

She lays waste to my anger
by offering me a cup of coffee
while we stand together in our back yard
on a mild summer morning.

I wonder without speaking,
if a pair of birds splashing in our fountain
might be a gesture of forgiveness too.

Who pissed on who?

Hooligans and animals, headlines screamed.
Print and news screens echoed fabricated truths,
lies spun to shield the blame,
front page highlights, a web of deceit.

A taunt at the crowd, a weakness exploited,
systems broken, truth twisted,
false fingers point to scarves soaked in blood
mingled with lives lost on a muddy field.

To see fans, shivering,
wounded by more than the crush,
left in their silence and the mayhem of slurs.
Conspiracies slithered, snakes in the grass,
burying truth beneath the weight of power.

Journey to Pristine Shores

Though long the destination
and tiresome, I'll set my sails
to your shores, wishing the winds of hope
to bless and blow my sails.

I'll set my sails to bask in shores
pristine, to inhale
the whole Mediterranean breeze.

I'll set my sails
and dig for peace
in broken shells
on your shores.

Light in the darkness

While I was consumed by darkness,
And pain that pierced my heart
Like a dagger to the chest,
I let my eyelids fall softly.
A pair of azure pools appear,
Your delicate eyes
Drawing me away
From the torment that consumed me.
We speak, tender rain that is the sound
Of your voice,
Silencing the ache of my afflicted heart.
Your hands, gentle and warm,
Mimicking sunlight through the branches
Of a tranquil forest,
Take my vulnerable ones.
As your divine lips
Whisper words of solace,

Cleanup on the isle of political debris

Saw it with my own eyes
knew that it was true
able to see past all the lies
distortion, distraction
diversion and subterfuge

Sad to think this is the best we can do
a nation once so proud
trying to decide the best bad choice
hoping for some voice of reason
someone to lift the cloud

No telling what comes next
uncharted territory
crazy, wild
bizarre, unprecedented
heaven, hell or purgatory
